This is an uneven movie but still somehow every good. I just loved the ending and soundtrack.

Cruel Intentions (1999) is a DVD my wife and I recently watched together. The storyline follows a rich playboy who uses his wealth and good looks to score women and has been keeping a journal of his endeavors. One day a new dean is taking over his school and bringing a wholesome daughter with him. The young man and step sister make a sinister bet that he can't charm her. A game of cat and mouse ensues.

This movie is directed by Roger Kumble (The Sweetest Thing) and stars Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Swoosie Kurtz (Liar Liar), Christine Baranski (The Grinch), Reese Witherspoon (Legally Blond), Selma Blair (Hellboy) and Ryan Phillippe (Crash).

The storyline for this is very good at times, seems like it's trying too hard other times and is sometimes cheesy. The cast is perfectly selected and everyone is awesome. Witherspoon, Gellar and Phillippe had perfect chemistry. The storyline unfolds well and the love story elements are very entertaining. The cat and mouse game is sick and clever at the same time.

Overall this is an uneven movie but still somehow every good. I just loved the ending and soundtrack. I would score this a 7.5/10 and strongly recommend it.

"You can put it anywhere"

This came out at the movies when I was 14 and let me tell you, it was the hottest thing to ever be shown at the movies in our lifetime! You could either sneak in or wait for the VHS. What a time. Watching it 23 years later I feel it really holds up. The precursor to Gossip Girl and the like, this really set a tone and I'm all for it.

A quite clever teen movie

If you want to introduce classic literature to a teen audience, movies like this are a great way, a good adaptation of a classic, not up there with '10 things I hate about you' or 'Romeo + Juliet' but still good enough to elicit interest in the classics from the audience.
